I got my October POPSUGAR MUSTHAVE Box

I'm so excited seeing the Mailman with my white and pink box!

I admit right up front I am addicted to my POPSUGAR MustHave subscription. Have you ever tried a box subscription of any kind? I have tried a few. POPSUGAR MustHave is the only subscription box I have ever renewed.

For those that don't know a subscription box is a service were you pay a set amount each month and receive a curated box of products or samples for a company. There are subscription boxes for beauty, men, kids, crafts, everything you can think of ......even that time of the month.

This is how the POPSUGAR Editors describe it:

"Every day we are pitched hundreds of new products. We love testing them all out and sharing our favorites with our readers.
For over five years, our editors and I have been reporting about our monthly must haves. Now we'll curate the very best in home, fashion, and beauty and send them right to your door.
Imagine getting an awesome surprise present every month, full of fun products for you to enjoy!"

My October box is one of my favorite boxes yet! This one truly has a little bit of everything.
  • Wet Brush- I've been dying to try one, and I am in love.
  • Smokey fume, Smokey eye palette by NYX Cosmetics. -I'm quite sultry now!

  • Gorjana Charity Bracelet- Cutesy and sweet but fits Kylee ;)
  • Julep Duo Exclusive for PopSugar- I got dark blue and black. Meh.

This is definitely on of my favorite Months so far, and I have had a few things from months past that are on my all time favorite things list already. Every once in a while I get a box with a lot of things that are just not for me.  I've never use the card and they are always just discounts. Those months, my friends love me! I always end of with great just because gifts for my girlfriends. The PopSugar Must Have subscription box is a Must Have!

I waited to post until everyone had theirs. Get in on Nov. box while you can!

Fundraising is for Suckers! Ya, I'm a sucker..

Who in their right mind signs up to be in charge of fundraising? No one. It's not a joke. You have to have something seriously wrong with you to do this to yourself. I didn't know I hated myself so much.If you haven't guessed yet, I am trying to organize a fundraiser... or 4. Yes, 4!

My husband is the Commander at our local American Legion and he is have a Texas Hold'em tournament next month. Only he works about 60 hours a week so I get to go around begging for raffle and silent auction donations, make fliers, and ask for volunteers. I'm a SAHM still for the next few weeks so I understand he's got to use me while he can before I go back to work. It's not all consuming but I also have my own things going on, the least of which is organizing my own event for the Legions Auxiliary Unit. I am managing my friend's soccer teams, one of them my son plays on and trying to get their new uniforms paid for and lower their league and tournaments fees with a Sonic card sale and a Texas Hold'em tournament coming up for them.

While most of them just require me to do a lot of paperwork and accounting the Texas hold'em tournaments seem to already be posing a bit of an issue around the house.

I never really thought about where I was going to put all the donations I am collecting for the raffles and auctions. So far it's just some selves in the garage that we had space on and the dining room table. That's not to big a deal as we usually use the kitchen table or living room if we eat dinner at home. My concern is that we still have over a month of collecting items to get through and ever smaller home. So besides dealing with all the "That's not the way I've done it" Helpers and the planning blunders, I just realized I have to protect the fundraising loot from my dogs, messy kids, and me miss placing it. Because the panic of worrying about missing deadlines for my multiple events and sales isn't enough!

Probably wouldn't be sound fundraising finance planning if I rented a storage space, huh? Oh well, maybe my husband and I don't really need the privacy of our own room. We weren't planning on making anymore babies anyway.......

Getting My MOJO back and Sikeston trip

In my last post I announced I was going to start doing nails again, and going back to work after almost 6 years at home. I have been doing manicures on friends and my guys here at home to practice for my retake of the state practical exam. They really do love me!!

The other day, I did my first full set of acrylics in a long time and with a new acrylic brand I had never tried.  I had to take this picture to show of my nail job and her little boy Roman, who is actually due TODAY.

I love doing acrylic and I think I did a pretty good job.  We left the white tips and just put on some top coat for a effortless french manicure. She likes them short and I like that since she is about to have a tiny little love to take care of. I felt llike I was back and I feel great about my upcoming test and job hunt.

After my small triumph, my week kept getting better and my guy and I went on a little trip san infantes to the opposite corner of the state to help lead a parade for their local Cotton Festival saluting Veterans, Reserves and Active duty Servicemen and women.  This year it was in honor of the Navy Seals.

It's put on every year by the Sikeston, Missouri American Legion there and had a parade, fair, carnival and pageants among other festivities. Our local post has gone down for several years to act as the Color Guard for the parade and march along with our Posts Cruiser that looks like a Duck type vehicle. We led the way for the Parade Grand Marshall in his shiny red convertible.  My hunny carried the Flag in the wind along a mile long route and I sat comfortably in the Cruiser waving at all the people.

We rode in the Cruiser on the almost 500 mile trip down and then back again, and I wouldn't say it was close to comfortable, but we had a great time with the rest of the people who went. We played cards and just enjoyed each other company while our rear ends suffered.

The best part was the hospitality of South Eastern Missouri. We spent a great deal of our 3 days there with the Legions members and they were amazing hosts!

My back side is still sore and my son is still whining that we were gone to long, but I am definitely on for next year.

Revisting the Creative Career of My Youth

For a while, thinking of possible career paths I may want to follow, now that I don't have so many kids at home, I for a while had overlooked the best option all together. I never even considered the industry that supported me as a young newly separated single mom. I wanted to find something that fulfilled my need to be useful and create but also where I would be in a welcoming and friendly environment. How did I ignore the Beauty industry?

I loved doing nails. I loved making little sculptures and paintings everyday. I loved making a women feel beautiful, unique and special. I am really excited to have begun the journey back to a job/Carrier I loved.

Notification of Reinstatement form has been sent in. Exam application submitted and accepted. Nail table and O.P.I. kit purchased and I am ready to take retake the practical section of the State Board Exam. Can't wait for my temporary permit to arrive so I can start real talks with Salon owners and find myself a spot in the world of beauty again.

Look for Blog Post soon with my nails I've done on friends and family while I get my techniques back in shape. I will also be reviewing all the new products that have come into fashions while I was out of the loop! Fun!

Dreaming of Fall?

Remember when you were young and it was actually a Fall month when school started?

My kids have been in school over a week now and Fall is over a month way. It's still poolside weather and I have no excuse waddle out and lay down in the kiddy area like beached marine life. I'm tired of the heat anyway. With it being so hot I don't want to do much outside but swim, and a lone 40 yr old mom...

Can you say awkward?

Worst of all, I'm lonely. I never was one of those mom's that celebrate when the kids go back to school. Not that there is anything wrong with how they feel. I understand it. I just hate being home alone. I just always want a partner in crime.

When the weather calms down yard work will be more fun. Walks, and hopefully, when my leg is better runs are more enjoyable. Not to mention the heat without any rain has Ragweed on full tilt. I really long for a nice 70 degree October afternoon! Stuck in the house I am looking for ways to occupy my time between when my youngest is off to school and my Senior is home.

Today I finalized plans to get myself ready to rejoin the workforce. So to add to my dreams of shorter days and lower temps, I am now dreaming of the day my reinstated professional license comes in the mail. I have to retake my state board practical exams next month. Wish me luck!

Now, what to do with the next 40 days?

Fixing I'm tired, but I'm up and heading to the Plaza art fair

What can I say?  I am no good at this blog thing.  I knew I hadn't  kept at it often enough, or even been very interesting.
I didn't know I wasn't even really blogging. I was journaling on a private website.  That is what I will call it, finding out months later that you never published 4 posting on you blog.

Private Website Journaling: Where even less people can read your Blogs with  0 subscribers!

The last few stories are oddly out of order as I just realized I had never click Publish and they were still in Draft.  So I  posted them in the time I had set aside to blog today. . . . I know, how will you live 6 months again for me to remember to do this?!?

Fear NOT! And enjoy my lame teasers:

  • I have purchased my own pottery wheel. The first and most important cornerstone of my own home studio! Will get  its  own story with pictures and all soon.
  • I am headed to the Plaza Art Fair at the Country Club Plaza tonight , for an evening of  fun and inspiration.

Just wait though, I get less computer illiterate everyday, and I am damn funny.  You'll see!

Public Service Announcement-Publishing on posts, I missed.

Drugs are Bad. Mmmm, K?!? -Mr.Mackey

They are. I may sound like a prude but they're bad.
People do stupid, wrong, and dangerous thing when they're on drugs. They hurt themselves, and others. They make bad choices on drugs.

As a kid I didn't get why a person would ever try drugs. What could be so good that you would break the law or but risk you health or life. I still don't know why people do what they do.

I was born in the early 70's so we got a lot of antidrugs information in school. I had teen relative tell me horror stories of classmates or of their own. Deaths, frightening halucinations. I was truely scared of the effects illegal drugs could have on my brain and physical health. I still am. I am heartbroken  about  drugs influence on the lives of people I have know and some, I love.

Say, NO to Drugs, their bad!

It's simple, it's funny, it's true! Mmmm, K?!?
